Dairy Australia is the national services body for the Australian dairy industry. Our role is to build a sustainable and internationally competitive industry and to provide solutions that help farmers adapt to an ever-changing operating environment.
We act as the collective investment arm of the dairy industry, investing in essential research, development and extension (RD&E) and industry services that individual farmers and dairy companies could not efficiently undertake on their own.
Our annual funding is a combination of levy, government and leveraged funds:
- $34 million – Dairy Services Levy, paid by farmers based on milk production
- $19 million – the Government supports dairy by matching payments for eligible R&D.
Dairy Australia also attracts funding of $20-30 million annually from state governments, universities, research organisations and other dairy support organisations.
